So I'm evaluating a newspaper articles claims.

It says: offenses have increased threefold which is (three times).
The evidence shows that in 2000 the number was 935 and in 2018 the number 2448. Does this support or contradict the claim?

Answer: The data appears to support the claim.

Step-by-step explanation:

Ignore the year numbers.

Divide the two other values to get 2448/935 = 2.618

Round this to the nearest whole number to get 3

The data approximately supports the claim. It's not perfect, but it's fairly close.
