1) I picked a number between 1 and 20. I multiplied my number by 6, added 8, divided it by 4, and then subtracted 5. This resulted in the number 3. What was my number?



2) I selected a number between 40 and 50. I divided my number by 9, subtracted 8, added 6 and then multiplied by 7. This resulted the number 21. What was my original number?


1) I picked a number between 100 and 110. I subtracted 4, added 11, multiplied it by 2, divided it by 6, and then subtracted 8. This resulted in the number 29. What was my original number?

1)

let x be your number.

((6x+8)/4)-5 = 3

add 5

(6x+8)/4=8

multiply by 4 to get rid of the denominator

6x+8=32

subtract 8

6x=24

divide by 6

x=4

2) Same type. (this time I won't explain every step)

let x be your number

((x/9)-8+6)*7 =21

(x/9)-8+6=3

(x/9)-2=3

x/9 = 5

x=45

3) Same type... Again

let x be your number

(((x-4+11)*2)/6)-8 = 29

((x-4+11)*2)/6=37

(x-4+11)*2 = 222

x+7=111

x= 104
