so, 4x-2=x+13, you can move either x, but I'm moving x instead of 4x

Your new equation is 3x-2=13, because the x's cancel out

Then you add 2 on both sides 3x-2=13

then you divide by 3 on both sides

3x divided by three leaves x by itself, and 15 divided by three is 5.
