A rectangle with a length of x+5 has a perimeter of 4x+ 14. What is the width of the rectangle?

Length of the rectangle (l) = x + 5

Perimeter of the rectangle = 4x + 14

Formula of perimeter of the rectangle = 2(length + width)

Let the width of the rectangle be 'w'. So,


\rm \longrightarrow 2(l + w) = 4x + 14 \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow 2(x + 5 + w) = 4x + 14 \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow (2(x + 5 + w))/(2) = (4x + 14)/(2) \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow x + 5 + w = 2x + 7 \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow x + 5 + w - (x + 5) = 2x + 7 - (x + 5) \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow x - x + 5 - 5 + w = 2x - x + 7 - 5 \\ \\ \rm \longrightarrow w = x + 2


\therefore Width of the rectangle (w) = x + 2
