1 / 7 + ( -3 ) / 7 = -2 / 7

Because the positive number is bigger than the negative number on a number line.

Negative numbers are on the left of a number line

Positive numbers are on the right of a number line

If you draw a number line you would go backwards 1 then -3, would become -2 because -2 is greater than -3
