-3 (n + 5) = 12

Please explain its due tonight and I need to study for my math unit test tomorrow if I fail I don’t pass.

-3 (n+5) = 12
-3•n -3•5
-3n-15 = 12
-3n+15 = 12+15
-3n = 27
-3n/-3 = 27/-3
n = -9 or -9n

First you want to distribute, keep in mind you cannot add in the parentheses because they are NOT like terms.
Once u distribute you should have
-3n-15=12
Now you want to add 15 to both sides to cancel it out ( because n has to be isolated)
-3n=27
Now you want to divide by -3 to both sides to get n by itself
n=-9
