Line t has an equation of y = -1/2 x + 7. Line u is parallel to line t and passes through

(4, -6). What is the equation of line u?

Answer:

y = -1/2x - 4

Explanation:

Let equation of line u be y = mx + c

since line t and line u are parallel, slope/gradient of both lines are the same (aka m = -1/2)

sub (4, -6):

-6 = -1/2(4) + c

c = -4

therefore, equation of line u is y = -1/2x - 4
