The sum of two numbers is 36. The larger number is 14 more than the smaller number. What are the numbers?

Answer:

The numbers are 11 and 25.

Explanation:

Assign x to the the numbers.

One of the numbers is 14 more than the other.

x + (x+14) = 36

Smaller number = x

Bigger number = x +14

2x + 14 = 36

2x = 22

x = 11 = smaller number

x = 11 + 14 = 25 = bigger number
