the goal is to remove numbers to get X by itself.

1. 9x-5 = 0
(how do we get 9x alone?, ADD five on each side
9x= 5
(how do we get rid of 9?, DIVIDE)
x= 5/9

if you want to get rid of a number, do the opposite!

6x + 4 = 0
- 4 = -4
6x = -4
divide by 6
x = -4/6
now simplify
x = -2/3

7x + 7 = 0
-7. -7
7x = -7
divide by 7
x = -7/7
x = -1

i hope this made sense!!
