Here, we simply want to calculate the value of the horizontal distance traveled

This is same as calculating the horizontal component

What we have here will be a right-angled triangle with 220 as the hypotenuse and the horizontal distance as the adjacent

So we make use of cos

cos 40 = x/220

x = 220 cos 40

x = 168.53 meters

To the nearest tenth, this is 168.5 meters
