Explanation:

The slope intercept form is y=mx+b. In this case, y and x are undefined, so you keep them as variables.

The variable m stands for the slope, and you multiply it with x. Since it is 1, and one times anything keeps the number the same, you can keep the 1 out. now we have y=x+b.

The y-intercept us -2, so we replace that with b. y=x+(-2). Since adding a negative is the same as subtracting, we can change the operation.

So, you end up with y=x-2.
