1) subtract the final value minus the starting value

279 - 180= 99

2) Divide that amount by the absolute value of the starting value

99 divided by 180 equals .55

3) Multiply by 100 to get percent increase

changes to 55.00 (final answer 55%)

4) If the percentage is negative, it means there was a decrease and not an increase.
