okay we are going to place 3 where the x variable is and -2 where the y variable is in the equation 2 x2 - y

2 (3*2) - (-2)

the equation now looks like this:

2(6) - (-2)

Since the subtraction sign is in front of the negative number the negative number will turn positive making the equation look like this:

2(6) + 2

we are now going to do the order of operations by multiplying 6 by 2 before adding 2:

6 * 2 = 12 + 2 = 14

So the equation 2 x2 - y = 14
