Why might trading and fishing have been easier than farming for people in Greece?

Greece was located on a penninsula and it has many islands, so there are lots of water and fish around it. With lots of islands and surrounding waters, it also has many ports for trade. Greece is also like a connecting point between the Mediterranean world and the Middle East, making a good trade spot. There isn't a whole lot of good soil in the crowded mainland and its infertile small islands.
