Given :

Hu is installing a new window in his bedroom wall. He wants to center it horizontally.

The window is 40 1/2= 81/2 inches long, and the wall is 105 1/4= 421/4 inches long.

To Find :

How far from each edge of the wall should Hu install the window.

Solution :

Remaining size,

R = (421)/(4)-(81)/(2)\\\\R = (259)/(4)\ inches

So, distance of the window form eah edge is
(R)/(2)=(259)/(8)\ inches.

Hence, this is the required solution.
