Why did early Japanese turn to the sea for food

I think that Japan is surrounded by water so there is so much sea and obviously fish are good to eat for food for them so it makes a lot of sense

If I’m not wrong, their homes and farms were actually very close to the sea. Also adding onto the fact that there was flat land and that they depended on sea food for diet.
