Carl has $1,997 in his savings account. He adds $140.50 to his account each week.

Makaela has $3,425 in her savings account. She adds $110.75 to her acount each week.

In how many weeks will Carl and Makela have the same amount of money in their accounts?

The equation is 1997 + 140.5x = 3425 + 110.75x.
So we would combine like terms and get
1428 = 29.75x
So you would do 1428 / 29.75 which is 48 to get x.
So x (or the weeks) is 48.
It will take 48 weeks for them to have the same money in their accounts.
