Regardless of particular form, snow absorbs about 25% of the sunlight and reflects about 75% of the light back up into the sky. Hence, snow is considered to have a high albedo. Albedo is the percentage of radiation the surface reflects. A forest will absorb about 95% of the light of the sun that strikes it.
