so 3 over 1 times 1 over 2

It’s basically asking us to figure out how many one halves are in the equation.
There are 9, 1/2’s in the equation, since 3/2 + 3/2 + 3/2 = 9/2.
So you would put 9 in the box, since you’re multiplying the numerator.
