If somatic cells are reproduced during mitosis then what kind of cells are produced during meiosis?

This is the type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes in the parent so by half and produce four gamete cells this process is required to produce egg and sperm cells for sexual reproduction

Mitosis produces two diploid (2n) somatic cells that are genetically identical to each other and the original parent cell, whereas meiosis produces four haploid (n) gametes that are genetically unique from each other and the original parent (germ) cell.
