A person hikes 4 miles in 2.5 hours. Find the unit rate in miles per hour.

Then find the unit rate in hours per mile.

Answer:

Unit rate is found with division. Since it is asking per hour, we simply do 4/2.5= 1.6. So we have 1.6 miles per hour. We can check by multiplying 1.6 by 2.5 and it will equal 4.

Practice: Find the unit rate of a jogger who jogs 15 miles in 3 hours. We do 15/3=5. The unit rate is 5 miles per hour.
