A spinner has 10 equal-sized sections. Two of the sections are red. What is the probability that the spinner will land on red?

These are two independent events so the probability of both events is just the product of the probability of each event. We have:

Pr ( first spin is on red ) = 8 / 10 = 4 / 5 and

Pr ( second spin is on the rest of the sections ) = 2 / 10 1 / 5 Thus we have

Pr ( first spin is on red and second spin is on the rest of the spinner = ( 4 / 5 ) x ( 1 / 5 ) = 4 / 25
