There are 12 dogs and 6 cats at a local pet store. What is the ratio of the number of cats to the total number of animals?

1:3

Explanation:

1) The number of cats: 6

2) The number of all of the animals: 18

3) The ratio--> 6:18

4) Simplify: (both of the numbers go into six) thus, the answer is 1:3
