4x = 52

divide both sides by 4 and you have x

x = 13

to find y on the other equation, since we know two of the angles, we can add up all three angles and make them equal to 180 (the sum of all angles on a triangle)

90 + 52 + (3y +2) = 180

first subtract 90 and 52 from both sides to leave the equation alone

3y + 2 = 38

second substract 2 to isolate the variable

3y = 36

lastly divide both sides by three

y = 12
