Answer:

A stable fracture is where the broken ends of the bone line up and are barely out of place, such as fractures in the rib cage from a big fall. This type would take weeks to heal. An open, or compound, fracture is where the skin may be pierced by the bone or by a blow that breaks the skin at the time of the fracture. The bone may or may not be visible in the wound. This could happen with a radial fracture where there's a cut or blow in the the smaller bone in the forearm. A transverse fracture has a horizontal fracture line. The term "transverse" means horizontal or cross-wise, the fracture line is perpendicular to the diaphysis of the bone. This type of fracture can be intervertebral such as motorcycle accident victims or sports injuries.
