Jacob purchased 2 1/2 pounds of grapes and 2 3/4 pounds of strawberries from a farmer's market. The cost of each pound of grapes is $2.64 and the cost of each pound of strawberries is $3.09. If the store offered a discount of 10% on the final bill, what was the amount Jacob paid to buy the fruits? Ignore sales tax.

Answer:

$13.59

Explanation:

((2 1/2)lbs grapes)*($2.64/lbs grapes) + ((2 3/4)lbs strawberries)*($3.09 lbs strawberries) = total cost before discount.

Total Cost = (2.5)*(2.64) + (2.75)*(3.09)

Total Cost = 15.0975 round to $15.10

10% discount = (1 - 0.10) = 0.90

(0.90)*($15.10) = $13.59
