we translate word problem to equation.

8219.5 IS 85% of TOTAL

Firstly, 85% = 85/100 = 0.85

Remember, is means =

of means multiplication

So we have:

8219.5 = 0.85 * Total

Hence, total = [let total be 7]

8219.5 = 0.85 * t

t = 8219.5/0.85 = 9670 feet
