The distance from the top of the cone to the edge is 15 feet. The height of the cone is 6 feet. What is the radius of the cone? Round to the nearest tenth.

Answer: 13.7 ft

Explanation:

Use Pythagorean theory to find radius

C^2 - B^2 = A^2

We know the hypotenuse (cone to edge) is 15

We will call that C

We know the height is 6

We will call that B

We are looking for A or radius


15^2 - 6^2 = A^2

225 - 36 = A^2

189 = A^2

Take square root of both sides

13.7 = A (radius)
