Adding the 2 equations term by term eliminates the y- term, that is

- 8x = 80 ( divide both sides by - 8 )

x = - 10

Substitute x = - 10 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (1)

- 3(- 10) + 2y = 56

30 + 2y = 56 ( subtract 30 from both sides )

2y = 26 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 13

Solution is (- 10, 13 )
