Given: 5(2x - 5) + 2x+8 = 43
Step 1: 10 - 25 + 2 + 8 = 43
Step 2: 12r - 17 = 43
Step 3: 12r = 43 +17
Step 4: 121= 60
Step 5: x=5
Which statement about the solution of the given equation is true?

The statement that is true about the solution to the equation is :

" The first mistake was made in step 1

linear algebraic equations are equations with unknown and the highest power of the unknown is 1.

Solving

5(2x - 5) + 2x+8 = 43

using distributive property

5 × 2x) - (5 × 5) + 2x + 8 = 43

10x - 25 + 2x + 8 = 43

collect like terms

12x = 43 + 17

12x = 60

x = 5

The mistake was made in step 1 , it should be 10x not 10.
