We are given that d = 65t models the distance, d, that Malcolm's family travels after t hours.

Since we are comparing speed of both families, then we will find the speed here.

Formula for speed is;. Speed = distance/time

d = 65t and we know that d is distance and t is time. Thus, d/t = 65 m/hr = speed.

For Theo's family, looking at the image attached;

At a distance of 50 miles, time spent is 1 hr

At a distance of 100 miles, time spent is 2 hrs

At a distance of 150 miles, time spent is 3 hrs

At a distance of 200 miles, time spent is 4 hrs

Thus, speed = 200/4 or 150/3 or 100/2 or 50/1.

They all give a constant value of 50 m/hr.

Thus, speed of Theo's family = 50 mi/hr

Comparing this to that of Malcolm's family,we can see that Malcolm's family were faster by 65 - 50 = 15 mi/hr
