Jasmine and Lisa each improved their yards by planting daylilies and geraniums. They bought their supplies from the same store. Jasmine spent $128 on 8 daylilies and 11 geraniums. Lisa spent $53 on 1 daylily and 6 geraniums. What is the cost of one daylily?

Answer:

daylilies= 5

geraniums =8

Explanation:

Step one:

let daylilies be x

and geraniums be y

the systems of the equation for the solution is given as

8x+11y=128-----------1

x+6y=53------2

Step two:

solve the equation simultaneously by substitution we have

8x+11y=128

x+6y=53

x=53-6y

put x=53-6y in equation 1

8(53-6y)+11y=128

424-48y+11y=128

-48y+11y=128-424

-37y=-296

y=296/37

y=8

put y=8 in x=53-6y

x=53-6(8)

x=53-48

x=5
