The earth rotates at a speed of 1000 mph. The circumference of the earth is 40,075 kilometers. If I'm sit in a lawn chair in front my house at 6 am and stay there until 6 am the next morning, what is my displacement as I made one full rotation while just standing on the planet

Answer:

displacement is zero.

Step-by-step explanation:

1000 mph = 1600 kmph

circumference = 40075 km

In one rotation , you will make one full circle around the centre of the earth . Hence total distance covered will be 40075 km , but total displacement will be zero . It is so because displacement is defined as minimum distance between initial and final point . Here initial and final point is same hence minimum distance is zero . Hence displacement is zero.
