Zoe compares the price of a sweatshirt at two stores. At Store A, the sweatshirt costs $25. A friend told her that the sweatshirt costs 30% more at Store B. Zoe wrote the expression 25+0.3(25) to find the price of the sweatshirt at Store B. Which equivalent expression could she also use to find the price of the sweatshirt at Store B?

Answer: equivalent expression = 130% of $25 or 130% x $25

which will give $32.50 same with the first expression given.

Explanation:

Step 1

The first expression given by Zoe to find price of sweatshirt at Store B

25+0.3(25) ----- Expression 1

Another equivalent expression to find the price at store B

we say

Using Percentage increase formulae

let the price at Store A be 100%

If Sweatshirt at store B costs 30% more, then in Store B, price is

100% + 30% = 130 %

Therefore price in Store B

= 130% X cost in Store A

130% X 25 -------Expression 2

Step 2

Solving the two expressions will give same result

25+0.3(25) = 25+7.5 = $32.5

130% X 25=$32.5
