Michael Faraday made his discovery of electromagnetic induction in 1831. He hypothesized that a changing magnetic field is necessary to induce a current in a nearby circuit. To test his hypothesis he made a coil by wrapping a paper cylinder with wire. He connected the coil to a galvanometer (voltmeter) and then moved a magnet back and forth inside the cylinder. Click Here to conduct Farday's experiment. Move the magnet back and forth inside the cylinder and notice what happens. Describe the energy transformation that is occurring in Faraday's experiment ( "__________ energy is transformed into _____________energy") in the textbox below.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

This experiment converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. The movement of the magnet in and out of the coil is mechanical energy and the current induced in the circuit as a result of the magnet movement is electrical energy.

It should be noted that generally electromagnetic induction as described by faraday (and indeed the experiment described in the question) involves the transformation of mechanical energy into electrical energy. It's application is used in transformers, electric motors and generators.
