my teacher gave me a number and told me to subtract 5 from the number and then multiply the result by 8 unfortunately I wasn't really listening I thought she told me to subtract 8 and then multiply the result by 5 I did those computation correctly and came up with 70 as my answer what is the correct answer to the question my teacher actually asked me?

5x - 40 + 40 = 70 + 40

5x = 110

x = 110/5

x = 23

She started with 23

So You should have done

23 - 5 = 18

18 * 8 = 144

What you should have obtained was 144
