Charles was visiting Garner State Park. At the entrance, he saw a map of the park. The legend stated that 1.5 inches on the map represents 2.5 feet in the park. On the map, how many inches would represent 6 actual feet?

Answer:

3.6 inches

Explanation:

A suitable proportion is ...

map inches / ground feet = 1.5/2.5 = x/6

Multiplying by 6, we find ...

x = 6(1.5/2.5) = 3.6

3.6 inches on the map would represent 6 feet on the ground.
