Explanation:

First you want to find the slope. you do this by dividing the change in y by the change in x.

8-1/-3-4

when you do this you get 7 over -7. therefore, the slope would be -1.

next, you want to plug this into a point-slope equation.

y-y1=m(x-x1)

y-1=-1(x-4)

now you simplify this equation into a slope intercept equation

y-1=-1(x-4)

at 1 to each side, and distribute the -1

y=-1x-4+1

simplify

y=-1x-3
