Gina has a bag containing Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, and Brown M&Ms.

If someone picks M&Ms without looking:
The probability of picking a Red M&M from the bag is one half.
The probability of picking a Green M&M is half the probability of picking a red M&M.
Blue, Yellow, and Brown M&M shave an equal probability of being picked
There are 24 Green M&Ms in the bag.
How many M&M's are there altogether?

Answer:

96M&M's

Explanation:

Given

Probability of picking a Red M&M = 1/2

Probability of picking a Green M&M = 1/2 of 1/2 = 1/4

Since;

Probability = number of possible outcome/total outcome

For green;

Total green(possible outcome) = 24

Probability of choosing green = 1/4

Substitute into the formula;

1/4 = 24/Total outcome

Cross multiply

Total outcome = 4×24

Total outcome = 96

Hence there are 96 M&M's altogether
