Answer:

  1. x = -11/3 or 3.666
  2. y = -1

Explanation:

Given:

1) -3x -5 = 6

2)- 4 ( y - 2 ) =12

To Find:

  • Value of x for no. 1
  • Value of y for no. 2

Solved:

1)-3x -5 = 6

Transpose -5 from LHS to RHS

  • => -3x = 6+5
  • => -3x = 11

Transpose -3 from LHS to RHS

  • => x = (11/-3)
  • => x = -11/3
  • => x = -3.666

2) -4(y-2) = 12

Apply distributive property

  • =>(−4)(y)+(-4)(-2)=12
  • =>-4y+8 = 12

Transpose 8 to RHS

  • => -4y = 12-8
  • => -4y =4

Transpose -4 to RHS

  • => y = 4/-4
  • => y = -1
