Brad and Wes are building a tree house. They cut a LaTeX: 12\frac{1}{2}\:12 1/2 foot piece of wood into 5 equally-sized pieces. How long is each piece of wood?

If 1/2 foot piece is cut into 5 equally sized pieces, we can use the equality postulate;

1/2 foot = 5 pieces

For us to know the length of each wood, we will saw;

X foot = 1 piece

Divide both equation and find X

(1/2)/X = 5/1

Cross multiply

1/2 = 5x

Divide both sides by 5

1/2÷5 = 5x/5

1/2×1/5 = x

1/10 = x

Hence each piece of wood is 1/10 foot long
