The picture below shows a child standing in a swimming pool.

Why does the lower part of the child appear different in size than the upper part?

I can’t see the picture but the answer is to do with refraction of light coming from the part of the child under water.
The light changes direction as it leaves the water and to the eye of the observer the feet of the child look to be higher up than they really are.
