Explanation:

p(4) = 0:-

p(4) = 4^2 + 8(4) - 48

= 16 + 32 - 48

= 0.

This is an application of the Factor Theorem ( a special case of The Remainder Theorem)

The Factor theorem states that if (x - a) is a factor of P(x) then P(a) = 0.
