A. x = 68, y = 75

Explanation:

So you see how those three angles all make a straight line? that's called complementary, where it all makes 180˚.

So, you know that...

(x-1)˚ + 40˚ + (y-2)˚ = 180˚

I'm not sure what that 74˚ is about, but what I would do is plug in the options until you get 180 degrees.

In this case, its the first option, A.

(68-1)˚ + 40˚ + (75-20)˚ = 180˚, which is true! so its A.
