In Australia in 1995, of the 2907 indigenous people in prison 17 of them died. In that same year, of the 14501 non-indigenous people in prison 42 of them died ("Aboriginal deaths in," 2013). Find the probability that an indigenous person dies in prison and the probability that a non-indigenous person dies in prison.

Answer: The probability that an indigenous person dies in prison
=(1)/(171)

The probability that a non-indigenous person dies in prison=
(42)/(14501)

Explanation:

For any event , formula of probability =
\frac{\text{Number of favorable outcomes}}{\text{Total outcomes}}

Given: In Australia in 1995, of the 2907 indigenous people in prison 17 of them died.

So, The probability that an indigenous person dies in prison =
(17)/(2907)

=(1)/(171)

Also, of the 14501 non-indigenous people in prison 42 of them died .

So, the probability that a non-indigenous person dies in prison=
(42)/(14501)
