Answer:

13 dogs and 15 cats

Explanation:

d= number of dogs, c= number of cats

First make you linear system of two equations like so:

100d+45c=1975 (100 dollars times an unknown amount of dogs plus 45 times an unknown amount of cats equals $1975)

d+c=28 (A certain amount of cats plus a certain amount of dogs has a total of 28 pets)

100d+45c=1975

d+c=28

We are going to solve using elimination

100d+45c=1975

-100(d+c=28)

100d+45c=1975

-100d-100c=-2800

+______________

-55c=-825

55c=825

c=15

There were 15 cats sold

Now you will plug it in to an original equation to solve for the amount of dogs

d+c=28

d+15=28

d=13

There were 13 dogs
