The length of the base on an

isosceles triangle is 5x. The length of
a leg is 6x + 8. The perimeter of the
triangle is 107. Find the length of the
base.

455/17 or 26 13/17

Explanation:

Since the triangle is an isosceles triangle the legs are the same length.

2(6x+8) + 5x= Perimeter

12x+16+5x= Perimeter

Perimeter =107

17x=107-16

17x=91

x=91/17

Since we are trying to find the base which is 5x, we can substitute.

5*91/17= 455/17 or 26 13/17
