The ribosome is an organelle found in all cell types and is the site for the synthesis of proteins in the cell. The ribosome is where translation (process of synthesizing amino acid chains from mRNA) occurs. The chains of amino acid later becomes the protein.

The Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) gets it "roughness" from the fact that RIBOSOMES are attached to its surface. Due to this, the RER functions in the synthesis of proteins. The RER is involved in the production, folding and packaging of proteins in eukaryotic cells.
