(You might consider this dumb.)

I have been struggling with maths lately and I feel like I can't do the simplest of problems, and my mother won't help me as she just thinks I'm being lazy. I'm really struggling with a lesson. I'm in 7th grade. Can someone tell me how to combine like and unlike terms with fractions that have variables? I just can't figure it out and no one can really help me right now.
