2x + 3 = 5 ( subtract 3 from both sides )

2x = 2 ( divide both sides by 2 )

Equate the coefficients of the imaginary terms

x - 2y = - 7 , that is

1 - 2y = - 7 ( subtract 1 from both sides )

- 2y = - 8 ( divide both sides by - 4 )

y = 4
